Parents As First Teachers is  a  free, non-targeted, strengths based educational program operating as an affiliate of the National Parents As Teachers Center and through the Winfield  Kansas Public Schools.  Program key components  include:  personal visits, screenings, group meetings and play groups for  parents with children ages prenatal to the third birthday.

Core Values

The early years of a child's life are critical for optimal development and provide the foundations for success in school and life.

Parents are their children's  first and most important influential teachers.

Established and emerging research should be the foundation of parent education and family support curricula, training, material and services.

All young children and their families deserve the same opportunities to succeed, regardless of any demographic or economic considerations.

An understanding and appreciation of the history and traditions of diverse cultures is essential to serving families.

Program Goals

Increase parent knowledge of early childhood development and improve parenting practices.

Provide early detection of developmental delays and health issues.

Increase children's school readiness and school success
