Parents As First Teachers is a free, non-targeted, strengths based educational program operating as an affiliate of the National Parents As Teachers Center and through the Winfield Kansas Public Schools. Program components include: personal visits, screenings, resource referral, group connections, and play groups for parents with children ages prenatal to the third birthday. Three areas of emphasis are parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting, and family well being.
The mission of Parents As First Teachers is to provide the information, support and encouragement parents need to help their children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life.
All Children will learn, grow and develop to realize their full potential
The early years of a child's life are critical for optimal development and provide the foundations for success in school and life. Parents are their children's first and most important influential teachers. Established and emerging research should be the foundation of parent education and family support curricula, training, material and services. All young children and their families deserve the same opportunities to succeed, regardless of any demographic, geographic, or economic considerations. An understanding and appreciation of the history and traditions of diverse cultures is essential to serving families.
