<div class="row clearfix"><div class="edit"><p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<a href="http://www.usd465.com/sundial-project-14bc8d38"><img src="https://d6vze32yv269z.cloudfront.net/a4179d5e-5bd1-4522-8484-2b411ab9e738/pages/images/-s7y2oa.png" alt="" style="margin-top: 1em; margin-bottom: 1em;"></a><br></p><p>Georganna Andes​'​ fifth&nbsp;grade class at Whittier elementary worked on Sundial Projects this past week and discussed why stars change with the seasons.&nbsp;<br></p><p>Students learned how and why the sundial was first invented. They discussed the different months of the year and how the sun's​ ​place​ in the sky​ differs​comparatively. Through their discussion and activities students learned to represent data in graphical displays to reveal patterns of daily changes in length and direction of shadows, day and night, and the seasonal appearance of some stars in the night sky. They spent the week completing multiple projects in and out of the classroom.&nbsp;</p><p>When speaking of her class Andes shared, "It was great being able to incorporate math and science together within the same lesson, especially after the solar eclipse! The kids really enjoyed the fresh air while gathering the data from their shadows too!"&nbsp;</p></div><div class="column half">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;</div>
