Summer Meals & Books!
USD 465 summer breakfast and lunch program is available to all children ages 1-18 with no cost or enrollment required. This is a nationwide program sponsored by the USDA. Reimbursement funding comes from the USDA for all meals meeting the nutritional guidelines set forth through the Summer Food Service Program. More information may be found at: https://www.fns.usda.gov/sfsp/summer-food-service-program.
This summer, Winfield and/or visiting families may attend one of five different locations available. Breakfast times are 7:30-8:30. Lunch times are 11:30-12:30. Meals will be served Monday-Friday, now through August 10. Locations for both Breakfast and Lunch are Winfield Early Learning Center (WELC) Cafeteria, Whittier Cafeteria, and Winfield Middle School (WMS) Cafeteria. There is a lunch only location under the Rotary Pavilion at Island Park. A breakfast only option may be found outside the Winfield High School weight room during the months of June and July.
Coming soon to three of the locations (WELC, Whittier, and WMS) are new USD 465 Little Free Libraries sponsored by the USD 465 Library Media Specialists. Peggy Craig, WHS teacher, won and donated a little library from a professional development training this school year. WHS teacher, Justin Hogan, built the other two to make the libraries available.
These libraries are “take a book, return a book” free book exchange. Anyone may take a book or bring a book to share – with appropriate content.
Anyone with questions or problems regarding the summer meal program or the Little Free Library may contact William Medley Administration Center at 620-221-5100.
