SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS PRE-KINDERGARTEN TO 12TH GRADE

The special education teacher will work with students with mild disabilities who take their classes in the regular classroom. Areas of support include, but are not limited to pre-teaching vocabulary for core curriculum classes, teaching students strategies in how to take tests successfully, providing support in the regular classroom itself during instruction, teaching reading, writing, spelling, and/or math in the Resource Room. Teaching duties will be determined by each student’s IEP. There are multiple requirements for special education paperwork that come with any special education teaching position. The cooperative has an IEP (Individual Education Plan) Coordinator who will assist/train all teachers in this process. In addition, teachers will have an opportunity to participate in Orton-Gillingham training.OG is a multi-sensory approach to helping students to learn to read, write, and spell. OG training is for two weeks every summer for three summers.

Salary: Salary commensurate with experience. All teachers are placed on the Teacher's Salary Schedule. First year teachers with a Bachelor’s Degree receive $42,440. First year teachers with a Master’s Degree receive $45,640.

Benefits: BOE pays $400/month of the employee's health insurance premium through Blue Cross of Kansas.

SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGISTS (two positions) - needed to work with preschool through high school age students with disabilities in Cowley County. Placement on teacher`s salary schedule $5,000 additional annual stipend paid over 12 months each year. Possible overload pay of $4,500 per year contingent on the number of SLPs employed.

Board of Education pays $4800 per year toward the annual cost of the employee`s individual health insurance premiums

Cowley County Special Services Cooperative employs 16 SLPs to work with students with disabilities throughout the cooperative. Average caseloads run from 45 – 60 students. There are multiple opportunities to team with and collaborate with other SLPs throughout the school year. In addition, the Coop pays registration fees for workshops to assist SLPs in obtaining CEUs to maintain licensure and has veteran SLPs who are willing to supervise the CFY for beginning SLPs.

School Nurse Substitute -

We are currently looking for RN's to provide nursing services to students when the School Nurse is absent. May be asked to fill in for preschool through 12th grade. Qualifications: current Kansas Registered nurse license, current certification in CPR, experience in pediatric, community or public health nursing would be helpful. Responsibilities: administer medications and treatments as ordered, provide care for student illnesses and accidents, provide care and monitoring for students with chronic health conditions - these may include Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, asthma, etc., contact parents as needed with regards to illnesses, accidents and chronic health disease monitoring, document on electronic medical record.
