Kansas Teacher of the Year nominees visited USD465 on Wednesday. Kerrie Bryant, from Lowell Elementary, is a Region IV Semi-finalist (pictured on the right). The other pictured nominees were from Andover, Augusta, Buhler, and Salina. They spent the day in Winfield visiting our schools as we showcased the unique programs and opportunities our school district offers.

Jim McNiece, one of our state BOE members was on hand to present the award to Lowell principal, Jennifer Ray.

4th and 5th graders attended the assembly.

Fourth and Fifth graders were involved in the presentation. The Challenge Award is given for supassing expectations for the 2022 State Assessments.

Kris Trimmer inducted to the Kansas Teacher Hall of Fame, June 5th in Dodge City, Kansas
Kris Trimmer believes that “good teachers are motivators who must be well versed in their subject matter which requires going beyond what is in the textbook”. When asked about her educational goals and teaching philosophy, she quoted Ralph Waldo Emerson who once said, “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” She believes enthusiasm is contagious and it will cause students to “become involved in and ultimately responsible for their own education.”

Last week, Kent Tamsen received the 2023 Kansas School Nurse Organization (KSNO) Administrator of the Year Award.  The purpose of this state level award is to recognize school administrators who are effective advocates for child/student wellbeing and who are effective advocates for the delivery of school health services to students.
