KIAAA

Kansas Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (KIAAA) has named John Kaufman, Athletic Director at Winfield High School, as the Class 4A Athletic Director of the Year.

The KIAAA is a professional organization serving athletic administrators across the state of Kansas, providing leadership training, professional development, and advocacy for education-based athletics. The organization recognizes individuals who demonstrate excellence in leadership, commitment to student-athletes, and service to their school communities.

A 2000 graduate of Winfield High School, Kaufman has proudly served his hometown district for more than a decade. After earning his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management and Education from the University of Kansas in 2005, he returned to Winfield in 2011 as an assistant athletic director. In 2020, he was promoted to Athletic Director, where he now oversees athletic programs at both the high school and middle school levels.

A former three-sport athlete, Kaufman is passionate about giving back to the community where he grew up. His leadership emphasizes strong communication, organization, and fostering a family atmosphere where students and coaches feel supported to succeed both now and in the future.

“The most rewarding part of this job is seeing kids and coaches succeed and building lasting relationships,” Kaufman said. “Athletics play such an important role in creating school spirit and pride in our community.”

Kaufman’s dedication to student-athletes and commitment to excellence continue to strengthen the culture of athletics in Winfield, making this recognition a proud moment for the entire community. Way to be #WinningInWinfield!
