The Winfield Early Learning Center (WELC) is thrilled to announce the launch of an innovative all-day preschool class exclusively for the children of USD 465 staff members, starting in August 2026. This enriching educational opportunity is designed for 3 year olds, aiming to provide a nurturing and academically stimulating environment that sets the foundation for lifelong learning.
As part of USD 465's comprehensive strategic plan, the introduction of this preschool class represents a significant commitment to recruiting and retaining top teaching talent. Recognizing the value of supporting our dedicated staff, WELC is offering this preschool service at a modest cost, ensuring peace of mind for staff members as their children receive a quality start to their educational journey. “It’s a recruitment tool, a retention tool,” emphasized Superintendent Reiser.
Currently, the Winfield Early Learning Center provides Pre-K classes for 3 and 4 year olds throughout the community. The new all-day preschool class, however, is a special addition tailored exclusively for USD 465 staff families. With a capacity of 12 students, the program offers personalized attention and an educational curriculum, all for an affordable fee of $150 per month. “It will be a class of 12,” noted WELC principal Ashley Schneider. “Eleven students are already committed to it.”
This new program has also facilitated the hiring of a new early learning teacher and a full-time physical education teacher, enhancing the overall educational experience at WELC. All children enrolled will enjoy physical education sessions three times a week, along with daily recess and outdoor time during lunch. “We want the kids to be up and moving,” Schneider explained. “It will be better for all of them.”
